Research Work on Hydroxyapatites
Professor Narasaraju wrote numerous research papers on Hydroxyapatite, which is the main inorganic constituent of human bones and teeth. A significant part of his research is on finding ways to use Hydroxylapatite to remove fluorine from drinking water which causes a disease known as Fluorosis. . Ground-water of many areas of the world contains fluorine. Professor Narasaraju and his collaborators did extensive research work as mentioned in his autobiographical account, to explore possibilities of preventing the occurrence of the disease through removal of fluorine using synthetic samples of Hydroixylapatite. The process of removal of fluorine from drinking-water is known as Defluoridation. An exhaustive account of his work appeared as a Review published in the Journal of Materials Science.
